Reading through Chicago Dave's site and those he's linked to reminded me of the first poem that really struck a note with me. 20 years or so later i can still recite it verse for verse. thought i would share it with you now.....

The fountains mingle with the river,
And the rivers with the ocean;
The winds of heaven mix forever,
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one another's being mingle-
Why not I with thine?

See! The mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea-
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss not me?

Percy Bysshe Shelley

yeah okay so i'm a sappy closet romantic. no one needs to know, okay?

Nothing to be ashamed of in memorizing Shelley !

And those are some beautiful photos, too.

I am off to give a reading at the Chicago Poetry Fest in about one hour. Have no idea what to expect - rowdiness? hecklers? academic snobbery? - think I'll just keep your photos in mind to calm my nerves (until the bar opens !)
